Attendance Policy
When students attend regularly, we typically see increases in school administered math and reading assessment scores. Since space is limited and waiting lists are common, regular attendance is required. However, if a family has competing activities, it’s possible to modify the students’ schedule. Field Trip Policy
Staff Will:
Our policies around swimming are as follows:
First Aid/Minor Injuries:
Staff Will:
- Ensure accurate attendance is taken
- Will assure all permissions are in order
- Make sure all first aid and emergency information is gathered
- Communicate to families, school, etc. of the itinerary of the trip
- Set and review expectations of behavior & schedule to students
Our policies around swimming are as follows:
- Swimming at the pool: Field trips to the pool require adequate lifeguards on duty (per pool regulations). Students and staff will follow the pool safety rules. Safety rules will be reviewed before students enter the water and enforced by both lifeguards and LWAS staff. Students stay in the shallow water unless they pass the pool's "deep end test."
- Swimming in an open water area (lakes, beach): For field trips to areas of open water with a lifeguard on duty, students can go in up to their ankles. Staff must be in the water to create a boundary for students not to go past. Students do not go in any water if there is no lifeguard on duty.
First Aid/Minor Injuries:
- Each program site will have first aid supplies in an accessible and visible location to all program staff.
- LearningWorks employees will treat all minor scrapes/bumps as least invasively as possible. I.e. LW employees will help students wash a wound, apply a bandage and/or cold compress if necessary and will then notify families. We will not apply any sort of antibacterial ointment or other medicinal treatment
- Serious Injuries: including head, neck, breathing, heart, major blood-related injuries
- When in doubt, call 911
- The only life saving protocol that will be used by LW employees is CPR/First Aid if properly trained.
- Keep the injured person free from hazards, stable, and comfortable until EMS arrives
- Notify families immediately
